After intense speculation, it has finally been confirmed which villain Emma Corrin is to play in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film – Cassandra Nova.
Cassandra Nova is a well-known Marvel villain, usually coming up against the X-Men, which is understandable as she is the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier – or Professor X – against whom she has a particular grudge.
Culture Crave spotted the confirmation on the official copyright, with Corrin listed against Nova.
There had been speculation that Nova would be one of the villains of the movie, after the initial trailer showed a bald head – a striking feature of Cassandra Nova.
Cassandra Nova is infamous in the X-Men comics as a hugely powerful villain with a range of superpowers including telekinesis, DNA duplication, mind control and dematerialization, among many others. Conceived at the same time as Professor X but without a body, she copied his DNA to make her own, effectively becoming his twin – all while still in the womb.
She tried to kill Xavier in the womb, but he defended himself, resulting in Cassandra ending up stillborn. After this, she ended up as a cellular mass clinging to a sewer wall, gradually building a human form over decades. When she was finally able to, she wreaked havoc on all sorts of mutants, including defeating most of the X-Men at some point.
The identity of more villains that Deadpool and Wolverine will come up against in the film – the only one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be released this year – are likely to be revealed soon as the clock ticks down to the July 25 release date. Director Shaun Levy has previously promised plenty of cameos in the film – so there should be all sorts of villains from across the multiverse included, as well as some heroes too.
