The 2025 Oscars are getting closer and now this year’s nominations have arrived, with Emilia Pérez, Wicked and The Brutalist leading the way.
Selena Gomez’s Emilia Pérez received 13 Oscar nominations, trailed closely by Wicked and The Brutalist which received 10 nods each.

Directed by Jacques Audiard, musical drama Emilia Pérez has made Oscar history. It broke the record for most nominations for a non-English language film. What’s more, its star Karla Sofía Gascón’s Best Actress nomination marks the first time a trans actor has received recognition in this particular category.
Gascón is nominated alongside Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Mickey Madison for Anora, Feranda Torres for I’m Still Here and Demi Moore for The Substance.

The nominations were revealed during a live ceremony hosted by comedians Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott. The duo shared details of which films were nominated in which categories. They also paid tribute to the brave firefighters who have battled Los Angeles wild fires.

The Best Actor shortlist includes Adrien Brody for The Brutalist, Timothée Chalamet for A Complete Unknown, Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, Ray Fiennes for Conclave and Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice.
Meanwhile, 10 films were nominated for Best Picture. These include Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Conclave, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance and Wicked.
Wicked received 10 nominations, with Ariana Grande recognised for Best Supporting Actress. James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown received six nods, the same number as Edward Berger’s religious thriller Conclave.
When it comes to Supporting Actor, Kieran Culkin’s role in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain is the frontrunner. The same category also includes Edward Norton for A Complete Unknown, Guy Pearce for The Brutalist, Tura Borisov for Anora and Culkin’s Succession colleague Jeremy Strong for The Apprentice.
Meanwhile, awards darling The Wild Robot was shortlisted for Best Animated Feature alongside colorful new releases like Flow, Pixar’s Inside Out 2, Memoir of a Snail and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.

When are the 2025 Oscars?
The 97th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday 2 March 2025.
The event will be hosted by former late nite host Conan O’Brien who inherits the job from current late nite host Jimmy Kimmel who fronted 2024’s event.
The Academy recently revealed that it will break from tradition and not include musical performances during this year’s event.
Instead, it will focus on each nominee with short packages that offer expert insight and behind-the-scenes details on the team behind each track.
