  • Former WWE executive Linda McMahon has been chosen by Donald Trump as the new Secretary of Education
  • McMahon was named as a defendant in a lawsuit involving the WWE ‘Ring Boy Scandal’ just last month
  • Linda and Vince McMahon have been married since 1966 but the marriage now appears to be over

Linda McMahon will once again form part of Donald Trump’s government, only this time as Secretary of Education. And her recent, eye-opening appointment is not the only reason the former WWE executive is in the news at the moment. It has been confirmed that McMahon is now separated from husband of 58 years, former WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

The couple, who have been married since 1966, had been a fixture on WWE television from the late 1990’s and throughout the 2000’s, with Vince being far more prominent as an on-screen character than Linda. However, with Vince now gone from WWE after over 40 years in charge, following a high profile sexual abuse and trafficking scandal, it appears his marriage has also come to an end.

As per a profile piece in the Washington Post, released yesterday morning (November 20), Mrs. McMahon’s counsel, Laura Brevetti, confirmed the couple are indeed separated.

The McMahons were reported to be living apart in 2022, around the time Vince initially retired amid a hush money scandal involving several former female employees with whom he had been having affairs. However, there was never any official confirmation about the couple’s marital status.

Outside of Brevetti’s confirmation of the separation, there are no details available about the parting of ways between the couple. Linda was featured prominently in the recent ‘Mr.McMahon’ documentary on Netflix, although her pieces were filmed prior to the final episode’s footage, which centred around the newfound scandals involving Janel Grant, in which McMahon is being investigated for sexual assault and sex trafficking.

Linda McMahon served initially as President and then CEO of WWE between 1980 and 2009. She also served under Donald Trump’s first presidency, where she worked as as the administrator of the Small Business Administration between 2017-2019 before stepping down to lead America First Action, a pro-Trump super PAC.

Just last month, both McMahons were named as defendants in a lawsuit accusing the pair, along with WWE, of negligence surrounding the ‘Ring Boy scandal’ of the late ’80s and early ’90s. McMahon’s possible involvement with the scandal was known to the Trump administration before her appointment as Small Business Administrator in 2017 and was listed as a possible ‘red flag’ against her, according to a document that was leaked by Trump’s transition team in 2019.

On-screen, Linda McMahon was often cast in a heroine role, often at loggerheads with her villainous husband, Mr.McMahon. One storyline, in 2001, even saw Vince conduct an illicit, public affair with female talent Trish Stratus while Linda was wheelchair bound and heavily medicated. Mr.McMahon would have Trish, his mistress, push his wife around in her wheelchair, and even had her ringside for his match against his son Shane, at WrestleMania 17. The match would culminate with Linda rising out of her wheelchair to low blow her husband, aiding Shane’s victory.

Twenty-three years later and Linda McMahon will be the next United States Secretary of Education.
