Just when we thought we were safe, Alien: Earth is bringing one of cinema’s most terrifying monsters from deep space into our neck of the woods.

Helmed by Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley, this new project marks the Alien franchise’s first foray into the small screen. With original film director Ridley Scott executive producing, the series promises to deliver something fresh to an anthology that has so far been relegated to the big screen.

What’s more, the surprise success of stand-alone sequel Alien: Romulus means Alien: Earth couldn’t come at a more interesting time.

Is there a trailer for Alien: Earth?

The official Alien: Earth teaser trailer scarpered its way online in late January 2025. It only lasted just under a minute but set the scene for some intergalactic terror headed straight for poor old Earth.

Shot from the point of view of a Xenomorph, we see a mysterious ship that appears to be doomed heading straight for our home. The teaser cuts off before it arrives but we’re sure the outcome won’t be good for anyone…

Before this, a short, 16-second teaser trailer for Alien: Earth screened ahead of selected performances of Alien: Romulus in August 2024. In November, a slightly longer teaser was officially released by FX and Disney.

Watch it below:

The short teaser confirms that the series takes place in 2120, two years before the events of Scott’s 1979 franchise-starter. As it gets underway, an ominous voice says “In 2021, Mother Earth is expecting.”

Meanwhile, a blue picture of Earth slowly morphs into the slick and shiny domed head of a Xenomorph. Soon afterwards, quick-cut scenes from the show flash across the screen.

Set two years before Sigourney Weaver’s Lt. Ellen Ripley first faces off against a Xenomorph, Alien: Earth tells a new story set a little closer to home.

As detailed in the show’s official synopsis, Hawley’s story will see a group of soldiers accidentally stumble on an alien danger with world-changing potential.

“When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat,” says the series log-line.

“As members of the crash recovery crew search for survivors among the wreckage, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined.

“With this new threat unlocked, the search crew must fight for survival and what they choose to do with this discovery could change planet Earth as they know it.”

According to reports, production for Hawley’s series took place in Thailand in 2023, with the show emerging as one of the few productions allowed to shoot during last year’s Hollywood strikes thanks to Equity loopholes. After a brief pause, the show finally wrapped production in April 2024.

Who is starring Alien: Earth?

American actor Sydney Chandler will lead Alien: Earth as Wendy. Known for her appearances in projects like Don’t Worry Darling and Sugar, Chandler will reportedly play a woman with the mind of a child. Considering the franchise’s fondness for synthetic humans, this could mean she’s an android – although nothing has been confirmed.

Meanwhile, Timothy Olyphant will play her mentor and trainer Kirsch, with Black Mirror star Alex Lawther playing a soldier named CJ.

Fellow Black Mirror star Samuel Blenkin will play a CEO named Boy Cavalier with The Babadook’s Essie Davis playing Dame Silvia, The White Tiger’s Adarsh Gourd playing Slightly and Shadow and Bone’s Kit Young playing a character named Tootles.

Together, they’ll be joined by an ensemble cast including Adrian Edmondson, Lily Newmark, David Rysdahl, Babou Ceesay, Erana James, Jonathan Ajayi and Diêm Camille but their characters are still largely a mystery.
