Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has taken the gaming world by storm, but its online multiplayer mode has been plagued with unsettling issues— rampant quitting, unbalanced rosters, and cheating—exasperating the dedicated player base.
Quitting mid-match has been a major concern. Some of the players during the Steam discussion let their frustration out, one user mentioned:
“Every game I play online now is just rage quitters, I can’t rank up in DP battle due to the number of people rage quitting”
However, players who disconnect excessively are now on the developers’ radar. Spike Chunsoft has announced penalties for those who frequently quit matches, shared in an X post:
“To ensure a fair and enjoyable gaming experience, we are strengthening timeout penalties against players with excessive disconnection or quitting rates during online matches. Thanks for your support and keep the battles epic! #DBSZ”
While some players appreciate this move, others demand more stern and bitter consequences. Xers replied to their tweets,
“We need rage quilters to lose score in ranked and for the people who stayed to receive the W and gain score. It can’t be that hard to add a “disconnect = loss” is it?”
“What’s so hard about giving the quitter a loss? We don’t care about suspensions, just give us a win and give them a heavy loss penalty.”
Character unbalancing and a rise in the number of cheaters have also fueled heated discussions. Within days of release, some players used mods, incorporating unfair gameplay.
Despite all these challenges, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero remains a massive success. Since its release on October 10, 2024, the game sold over three million copies within 24 hours, breaking records for the Dragon Ball franchise and Bandai Namco.
However, such issues hit all the installments at one time or another but fans are glad to hear that developers are paying attention to their complaints and taking action to clear this mess promptly.
