- Jahmyr Gibbs recreated Iverson’s iconic ‘step over’ on Tyronn Lue from the 2001 NBA Finals
- Gibbs helped the Detroit Lions extend their record to 10-1 for the season
- The Lions defeated the Indianapolis Colts 24-6 to remain top of the NFC North
Jahmyr Gibbs continued his dazzling form against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday (November 24) and paid tribute to a legend in the process.
The Detroit Lions running back helped his team turn the tide against Indianapolis in the second quarter as the NFC North leaders found themselves trailing 3-0. Early in the second, Gibbs took a handoff, waltzed past three Colts defenders and waltzed into the end zone to put the Lions into a 6-3 lead.
But the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket wasn’t done there. When it came time to celebrate, Gibbs sought out receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to recreate Allen Iverson’s step-back jumper and ‘step over’ on Tyronn Lue during the 2001 NBA finals.

While Lue’s Lakers would take the series 4-1 over Iverson’s Sixers that year, Iverson’s stepping over the downed point guard became one of the most iconic shots in NBA history and was recreated almost perfectly by Gibbs and St. Brown on Sunday.
Before Sunday’s emphatic victory over the Colts, Gibbs has already been enjoying an incredible second season with Detroit, having rushed for 796 yards on 133 carries, while scoring eight touchdowns and having 23 receptions for 256 yards. The ‘Sonic and Knuckles’ partnership Gibbs has forged with David Montgomery is proving to be a borderline unstoppable duo, with both running backs scoring a rush touchdown for the ninth time, yesterday. That’s a stat that leaves them tied in third place for most by teammates in NFL history.
Can Gibbs and co’s form continue and take the Lions to their first ever Super Bowl, though?
