Put your medial gear back on because we are returning to Sacred Heart Hospital for a Scrubs reboot.
That’s right – a retooling of the popular medical comedy has officially received the green light. It’s 2000s reboot season apparently because football drama Friday Night Lights also has a reboot in the works.
ABC has just confirmed the project, which will premiere on its network. Scrubs ran for 9 seasons on ABC from 2001 to 2010.
The sitcom starred the likes of Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke. Braff became known beyond Scrubs, as a counterpart of one of Hollywood’s most surprising couples, in his relationship with actress Florence Pugh. Pugh and Braff dated for three years before breaking up in 2022.
While we have no idea which cast members are returning right now, we do know that series creator Bill Lawrence is involved in the reboot. However, Lawrence will not be the showrunner, according to Digital Spy.

Who is making the new Scrubs show?
As we mentioned above, original creator Lawrence is working with ABC on the reboot, although he will not run the show.
Right now, ABC hasn’t announced a showrunner for the Scrubs reboot. However, Lawrence’s involvement is sure to create another hit. He is the creator of the sitcom Cougar starring Friends’ Courtney Cox, and executive producer of Apple+ TV’s sports drama Ted Lasso.
Lawrence has been bombarded with questions about whether his shows will return over the past few years. Ted Lasso ended in 2023 after three seasons and news about a potential season four has run rampant ever since.
Joking with Variety Lawrence said that the Ted Lasso questions stopped people asking about a Scrubs reboot. The best thing about [questions about the future of ‘Ted Lasso’] is that it replaced, for a second, having to talk about whether or not ‘Scrubs’ was going to get rebooted.”
Who is starring in the Scrubs reboot?
The reboot has yet to attach any of the original Scrubs stars but fear not, supposedly 20th Century Television is trying to secure some of the original cast. Regardless of who joins the reboot, the OG cast has expressed interest in a scrubs reboot over the years.
What have the cast said about a Scrubs reboot?
The Scrubs cast loves the idea of the show rebooting. In 2020, show leads Braff and Donald Faison launched a Scrubs rewatch podcast called Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald.

Braff has expressed his enthusiasm in the past to reprise his role as J.D. in Scrubs.
He told Entertainment Tonight: “It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it’s true.”
Fellow podcast host Faison echoes Braff’s sentiments about a reboot. He told Page Six back in 2017 that he wanted the original writers and cast to return
“It would have to take everybody to come back to do the [“Scrubs”] reboot,” he said. “Not just the cast, but also the producers and the writers to make it work, in my opinion.”
What will the reboot be about?
The reboot’s plot is still under wraps. Nobody knows what Lawrence and ABC have planned right now. Keep your eyes peeled for plot updates.
If the original cast is involved, we hope to see J.D. return as a doctor and our favorite couples back where they belong.
