- A Scrubs reboot is in its early stages at ABC
- No former cast members are confirmed yet
- Scrubs cast members have said they are open to a reboot

It’s official, a Scrubs reboot is happening at ABC. All of you medical show fans are probably clapping right now.
Creator Bill Lawrence closed a deal with ABC and 20th Century Television in late December to revisit the show. However, Lawrence will not lead the reboot. Don’t fret, he will be involved in some way or another.

Also uncertain in their return is the main cast of Scrubs. Reports suggest that the networks are trying to recruit former Scrubs stars to join but there is no confirmation as of yet. A new show certainly can’t beat the nine-season run that Scrubs had on ABC from 2001 to 2010 though.
However, that doesn’t mean that the beloved cast is unwilling to return.
Positive statements by leading cast members have expressed interest in a reboot -but what exactly have they said about it?
Let’s break it down…
Who are the Scrubs cast?

Before discussing their feelings about a reboot, we must first break down who the Scrubs cast is.
Zach Braff leads the show as John Michael Dorian, AKA “J.D.” Donald Faison plays J.D.’s best friend and medical resident Christopher Turk. Sarah Chalke portrays J.D.’s love interest and hospital intern Elliot Reid. Other key cast members include John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox and Judy Reyes as head nurse Carla Espinosa.
Ken Jenkins also stars as Dr. Bob Kelso.
What do the Scrubs cast think about a Scrubs reboot?
Zach Braff
No Scrubs stars have spoken on the confirmed reboot yet but they have been vocal about one previously. Show lead Braff told TV Insider in 2023 that he would return if Lawrence was a part of the reboot.
“If Lawrence said he wanted to make a Scrubs reunion, he would “a hundred percent” be there, adding: “if [Lawrence] said yes and figured it out, we’d all be there.”
Braff still has a soft spot for Scrubs because he and co-star Faison host a Scrubs rewatch podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
He continues to speak fondly of the idea of a reboot. Braff told Entertainment Tonight this year, “It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people.” Regarding a reboot, he confidently stated, “It’s going to happen.”
Well if Braff is excited, so are we!
Donald Faison
Faison maintains a similar stance to Braff on a reboot. Although he is more open to a movie than a TV show.
According to Pop Culture.com, he said: “Here’s the deal: I think we all want a reboot and want to work together again but it couldn’t be a full season. Maybe like a movie or something we could shoot in a few months.”
At least working with Braff on the podcast means that Faison doesn’t hate Scrubs either!
Sarah Chalke
Now Chalke is better known for her role as Kate Mularkey in the Netflix drama Firefly Lane. However, that doesn’t mean she will not return to playing Elliot Reid.
Chalke hasn’t been as vocal as Faison and Braff about returning but she has been at many reunions with her castmates, at least suggesting she’d return to reunite with them.
John C. McGinley
McGinley was one of the older cast members in Scrubsas Dr Cox, so we don’t know if he’d be retired from Sacred Heart by now. Regardless of his character’s age, McGinley hasn’t said much about a Scrubs reboot.
Judy Reyes
Since Scrubs ended, Reyes continues to make a name for herself starring in Devious Maids and the new crime drama High Potential.
High Potential only began airing this year, so whether Reyes will be free for a Scrubs reboot is unknown. However, she spoke to the New York Post in September about a reboot.
“I haven’t heard a thing except for what you’ve heard… there’s been lots of talk and lots of excitement. I think Bill Lawrence is incredibly busy but wide open,” she said. Regarding her return, Reyes hasn’t spoken about it since.
So… what’s the consensus on a Scrubs reboot?
The consensus by the Scrubs cast is that they would most likely return for a reboot. Unlike the Friday Night Lights reboot, it doesn’t seem like there will be a whole new cast of characters in the new Scrubs show although we’re sure some new faces might be leading the way.
Concerning the story, it seems Braff and Faison want Lawrence to be involved, which makes their return more likely.
Since Lawrence has closed the deal at ABC for a Scrubs reboot, we don’t think it’ll be long before some cast members from the original series sign on but for now, we will have to wait and see.
