Looking for new 2024 Christmas movies that’ll pair perfectly with a cosy Christmas Day? Thankfully, we’ve got you covered on that front.

Like finding one extra present hiding under the tree, we’ve rounded up a list of the newest festive films to hit cinemas and streamers this year. The only thing we’ve forgotten is a bow.

Often, seasonal viewing can be focused on nostalgia and the Christmas movies we all grew up loving. So much so that it can be easy to forget that new Christmas movies are released each and every year.

However, much like Santa Claus, new Christmas movies do indeed make a welcome appearance each and every December. So if you find yourself full of food and about to polish off your third glass of Baileys of the afternoon, then perhaps you’ll enjoy these new Christmas films that hit screens in 2024.

From an action-packed sleigh ride to a touching , here are some new movies to help facilitate some quality family time this Christmas – or at the very least, a nice nap on the sofa.

2024 Christmas Movies to stream right now

Hot Frosty

Available to stream now on Netflix, Hot Frosty tells that classic story of a snowman coming to life. However, unlike the classic animation The Snowman which follows a similar premise, this American comedy-drama features an ice-man transformed into a chiselled dream guy. It’s enough to make Raymond Briggs melt a little.

Directed by Jerry Ciccoritti, Hot Frosty features Lacey Chabert as the lonely Kathy whose life is turned around by human snowman Jack, played by Dustin Milligan. The film has more than a touch of a Hallmark made-for-TV movie about it but is salvaged by appearances from The US Office star Craig Robinson and Brooklyn 99’s Joe Lo Truglio. Overall, it’s a fairly lighthearted way to spend a lazy afternoon.

A Sudden Case of Christmas

Available to watch on Hulu and Disney+, A Sudden Case of Christmas features Danny DeVito as a grandpa whose daughter is on the verge of divorcing her husband. With a split seemingly inevitable, the couple visit a hotel in Italy so they can give their young daughter one last Christmas as a family. However, while here, DeVito’s grandad helps the family fix its broken bonds, all while restoring some festive spirit.

DeVito’s no stranger to Christmas movies, having previously starred in 2006’s Deck The Halls and 1992’s Batman Returns (still counts). Here, he stars alongside his real-life daughter Lucy in a film that’s packed with lush visuals courtesy of its Italian backdrop. It may not be destined to become a regularly repeatable fave but A Sudden Case of Christmas is a touching 2024 offering.

Red One

Poor Santa. It seems like a year can’t go by without something terrible happening that threatens to interrupt his one job of the year. What are the odds? In Red One, that unfortunate incident is the arrival of a mysterious Christmas witch who kidnaps a gruff Saint Nick (J.K. Simmons) and threatens to ruin 25 December for the entire world.

Thankfully, the North Pole has back-up in the form of its number one security guard Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson). However, to track down the missing Christmas icon, he’s forced to team up with crook and notorious non-believer Jack O’Malley (Chris Evans). The pair eventually call on Krampus for backup while taking viewers on an action-packed festive adventure.

Dear Santa

Available right now on Paramount+ worldwide, Dear Santa features Jack Black as the Devil in a movie directed by one-half of the duo that brought you Dumb and Dumber. When a young boy notices that his parents’ marriage is on the rocks, he writes a letter to Santa to help secure a merry Christmas for all. However, when his dyslexia leads him to spell Santa’s name wrong, it’s Satan who inadvertently returns the call.

Black lives it up as the lord of the underworld as he helps his pint-sized pal secure some of his wildest dreams… at a cost. The film also features a fun cameo that reunites the comedian with one of his oldest comedy collaborators. Perfect for kids big and small, Dear Santa is ideal for those looking for a few Christmas day laughs.

Nutcrackers

Available on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ pretty much everywhere else, Nutcrackers is a lightly-festive family drama starring Ben Stiller. Here, the Zoolander star delivers a more subtle and restrained role as a business man who inherits his sister’s farmhouse when she and her hubby are involved in a tragic road accident. Upon arrival, he soon discovers he’s also inherited her four unruly children.

What follows is a classic case of an unwilling parent and a group of kids who refused to be parented. However, as their relationship evolves, each starts to warm to the other – and when an opportunity for the kids to showcase their wild performance abilities at a festive rendition of the Nutcracker ballet emerges, the seeds for a heartwarming third act are sewn.
