Ilana Glazer recently dropped a new comedy special on Hulu. However, where else have you seen the funny lady?
They shot to fame as the star and creator of Broad City with Abbi Jacobsen. They’ve since starred in a wide variety of projects.
Their most recent offering is her latest stand-up special, Human Magic, on Hulu.
Who is Ilana Glazer?
Glazer is a comedian, writer and actor. They were born in New York City. However, their parents, Sandi and Larry, moved them to Long Island, where they were raised alongside their brother Elliot.
Their family life provided lots of inspiration for plot points in Broad City, where they played Ilana Wexler. Glazer recently told NPR about how little they rebelled as teenager.
“I didn’t quite rebel very much as a child or a teenager. I was very good, and I was focused on achieving. And my rebellion came later. Honestly, I was not secure in rebelling against my parents until a few years ago. L-O-L. I’m 37 years old,” Glazer told the outlet.
They are non-binary
Glazer identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, a discovery they made themselves after welcoming a daughter with their husband,d David Rooklin
While speaking to The Independent in August 2024, Glazer said that “being pregnant on paper was the most female thing I could ever do, but it actually highlighted both the masculine and feminine inside of me.”

Glazer dropped their debut special, The Planet is Burning, on Amazon Prime in 2020.
How did Broad City begin?
Broad City was born in 2009 as a YouTube show after the pair became friends. They met at the legendary comedy school, Uprights Citizen Brigade Theatre.
Alumni include Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The latter was instrumental to their success. The comedy icon loved their work and signed on as a producer. Following this, Broad City morphed into a Comedy Central series. It ran for five seasons between 2014 and 2019.
Glazer recently revealed on NPR’s All Things Considered that the network offered them two more series but felt it was best to go out on a high.
They said, “But, like, it just – I think that’s – yeah, that’s something I would say is elegant about me – knowing when things are at their end.”
Does Ilana Glazer have any other credits?
Glazer has been keeping busy professionally after the end of Broad City. Along with the comedy, they have starred in a string of movies and TV shows. For example, in 2017, Glazer starred with Scarlett Johansson and Kate McKinnon in Rough Night.
2021 saw them lead the horror film False Positive, which they also co-wrote and produced. In 2024, Glazer returned to the big screen in the comedy Babes with Michelle Buteau.
What else have they done outside of showbiz?
Politics are very important to Glazer. In 2016, they co-founded Generator Collective with Glennis Meagher. The initiative works towards advocating for more women politicians and increased political activity.
Hilary Clinton even made a cameo in an episode of Broad City during her unsuccessful attempt to beat President Donald Trump that same year.
