Oh no, Jared Leto is playing another supervillain. Color us surprised. No, but seriously, Variety reports that he has joined The Masters of The Universe cast as Skeletor. Skeletor is the main antagonist of the series. He is a skull-faced and blue-skinned villain who is the nemesis of He-Man.

Masters of the Universe follows He-Man as he battles to protect the planet Eternia from the evil Skeletor, who aims to seize control of the powerful Castle Grayskull.

This isn’t Leto’s first time playing a supervillain. He is infamous for playing The Joker in Suicide Squad (though not necessarily for the best reasons). Additionally, Leto showcased his villainous side again as Morbius in the 2022 film.

The upcoming Masters of the Universe movie, based on the Mattel franchise, is set to be released in 2026.

Travis Knight, director of the upcoming stop-motion horror film Wildwood, will direct the movie. With its release less than two years away, casting is already underway. Now that Leto is cast, Knight has chosen his main antagonist. But who will star alongside Leto in Masters of The Universe?

Read on to find out.

Who is starring in The Masters of The Universe Movie?

Since Skeletor is the villain, we’re on the edge of our seats wondering—who will play He-Man? British actor Nicholas Galitzine has landed the iconic role. Galitzine, who recently starred in the Amazon Prime rom-com The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway and the historical drama Mary & George, is ready to take on this heroic challenge.

But that’s not all—Skeletor’s minions (ahem, henchmen) have also been cast! Sam C. Wilson will bring Trap Jaw to life, the villain with a mechanical jaw capable of crushing anything in its path. And alongside Wilson, Kojo Attah will portray Tri-Klops, whose triple vision gives him an edge in any battle. Attah, known for The Beekeeper, will also star in In The Grey in 2025.

Lastly, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, already a professional strongman, will play Goat Man. Given his impressive strength, we’re sure he won’t need to bulk up for the role! You may recognize him from The Northman and Hamlet Pheroun.

Now, get us some female power up in here, will you? Alison Brie will play Evil-Lyn, who is Skeletor’s lieutenant. Riverdale’s Camila Mendes will play Teela, He-Man’s close ally and associate. Teela’s father will be played by the one and only Idris Elba, who will be our Man-At-Arms.

Who else is working on the film?

We know Knight is directing the film with Chris Butler writing the screenplay. Notably, Knight and Butler recently worked together on Knight’s upcoming Wildwood film. Additionally, Mattel Films is producing the movie alongside two other companies, which, considering they own the franchise rights, is hardly surprising.

What has the cast said about joining Masters Of The Universe?

Much to our dismay, Leto hasn’t said anything yet about playing Skeletor. However, Galitzine expressed his excitement at playing He-Man back in May.

He wrote on Instagram announcing his casting.

He said: “I’m so beyond proud to announce that I will be playing Adam, Prince of Eternia in ‘Masters of the Universe’. It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humor, and heroism, I cannot wait to get started.”

We can’t wait to see it.
