Squid Game season 2 will consist of seven episodes all of which will be released at once. This will allow viewers to binge-watch the entire season over the Christmas and New Year break.

Dong-hyuk’s new season is shorter than Squid Game season 1 which featured nine episodes. However, we also know that the director shot Squid Game season 3 back-to-back with part 2.

This had an impact on the number of episodes featured in Squid Game season 2.

“I wrote seasons two and three at the same time, and we were in production for both simultaneously, and currently we are in the post-production process for season three,” Dong-hyuk told Deadline in early December

“When I was writing the script for the two seasons, I felt like there was a big turning point or an inflection point, and that was the end of episode seven, so I thought that it would do it justice to have a separate season after that.

“That’s why I had first seven episodes as season two and then the rest of season three.”

When is Squid Game season 3 released?

Squid Game season 3 doesn’t currently have a release date. That said, we know it will arrive on Netflix at some point in 2025.

We don’t know how many episodes it will include or how long they will be – but we do know that it will end the Squid Game story. So far, the little information we do have on Squid Game season 3 was shared via its creator in July 2024.

“Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who vowed revenge at the end of season one, returns and joins the game again,” explained Dong-hyuk in a letter confirming the show’s third outing. “Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either.

“The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale in season three, which will be brought to you next year.”
