- The Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles last night
- The Brutalist and Emilia Perez won big
- There were also some notable snubs

Awards season has officially begun and the Golden Globes had some surprises in store for the biggest names in film and TV.
While some winners went home with awards as many predicted, there were a few more unexpected decisions thrown into the mix – and some snubs that baffled the internet.
Whether this alters the course of awards season remains to be seen. Sometimes, earlier ceremonies can indicate who will have success at later ones, particularly the Oscars. Then again, winning a Golden Globe is certainly not a guarantee of success elsewhere, including with the Academy.
Some of the big films in contention included A Complete Unknown, Anora, Dune: Part Two, The Substance, Wicked, The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez and Challengers. On the TV side, hopes were high for the likes of Shogun, The Bear, Hacks, Slow Horses and more.
But who triumphed? Let’s find out…
Which films won big?
The two big winners of the night among the films were historical epic The Brutalist and Spanish-language crime musical Emilia Perez. The success for both of these films wasn’t particularly surprising. Emilia Perez had netted ten nominations – the most in Golden Globes history – while The Brutalist had earned seven.
The Brutalist took home Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director for Brady Corbet and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for Adrien Brody.
Meanwhile, Emilia Perez won Best Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy, Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language and Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Zoe Saldana.
Some surprising results

Notably, some films didn’t perform as well as expected. Wicked, for example, was nominated for four awards but both stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande missed out. The only award it won was for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures.
Challengers also didn’t do as well as expected, only picking up one award for Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’s original score. The Substance suffered a similar fate, its only win going to Demi Moore in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical.
The biggest snub of the night was easily A Complete Unknown. It may have been touted for Oscars success but the same wasn’t to be said for the Golden Globes. Significantly, it marks the fourth time star Timothee Chalamet has been nominated for a Golden Globe but didn’t win.
Which TV shows won big?

It came as no surprise that Shōgun had a big night. As well as taking home Best Television Series – Drama, stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai also won in their respective categories. Elsewhere, Tadanobu Asano triumphed in the Supporting Actor category.
Hacks also had a good night, winning Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical. Later on, Jean Smart took home Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Comedy Or Musical.
As predicted, Baby Reindeer was rather successful. It won in the Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture made for Television, but despite predictions for success, Richard Gadd lost out in the same category for actors to Colin Farrell for The Penguin. However, Jessica Gunning still succeeded in winning in her category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Television.
