- Wicked star says she wants to play Storm in the MCU
- Marvel is gradually introducing the X-Men into the MCU
- Erivo is up for awards for her turn in Wicked

Cynthia Erivo is an in-demand actor after her turn in Wicked, but she has revealed one role that she really wants to play – Storm in the X-Men.
Erivo’s stock has risen after she starred in Wicked as Elphaba last year. While she no doubt has no shortage of offers at the moment, Erivo has revealed the one role really wants to play – Storm in X-Men.
Talking to the National Board of Review (via ComicBookMovie.com), Erivo said: “I really want to play Storm. I know it sounds frivolous, but I think we haven’t uncovered how grand she is and all of that inner turmoil that she has, so I think there’s a world where we could do something like that.”
There are rumors Marvel has met with Erivo, but they are just that.
X-Men introduction to MCU
Currently, Marvel is starting to introduce the X-Men into the MCU. While there have been multiple X-Men films this century, they were made by 20th Century Fox, so are not part of the MCU.
Last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine was the first to feature any of the X-Men in a main role – Charles Xavier was briefly seen in an alternate universe in Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Now, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is planning to bring other mutants in gradually over coming MCU films.
“Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back,” Feige told the Disney APAC Content Showcase late last year.
Currently, there is no stand-alone X-Men movie on the slate at Marvel, but it is thought one is in development, although it won’t be seen for a few years yet. Here is all we know about the X-Men entry into the MCU.
Cynthia Erivo up for award
But while any role in the MCU is a potential for the future, Erivo is currently engaged in awards season, which is getting under way.
Erivo was recently nominated in the Best Film Actress category at the SAG Awards for her turn in Wicked. Wicked is also nominated in the Best Film Ensemble category, while Ariana Grande – who played Glinda – is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category.
