- 77th Emmy Awards will be in September 2025
- Nominations to be announced 15 July
- The Penguin predicted for more success

It’s what people often call the TV equivalent of the Oscars for film – the Emmy Awards. This year marks the 77th of the ceremony and whilst official dates have not been formally announced yet, we do know it’s going to air on CBS sometime in September.
The ceremony, which celebrates the outstanding achievements in television usually airs mid-September and has traditionally landed on a Sunday.
Voting periods and nomination announcements
As we still await details on the date for the awards show – and the glamorous after party, The Emmys Governors Ball, for that matter – here’s some other key dates that have been confirmed:
1 June , 2024 – 31 May, 2025: eligibility period
20 February 2025: Open for submissions
12 June, 2025: Nomination-round voting begins
15 July, 2025: Nominations announced
There’s also been some tweaks to the rules for the 2025 and 2026 Emmy Awards to reflect the ever-evolving industry and to make for a fairer competition. Notable changes for 2025 include:
Directing: An eligible individual or the identical team may now enter multiple achievements per category if the achievements are for different programs. Previously, directors were allowed to submit only one entry per category. This change will allow the director to submit an episode from each of the programs they directed.

Guest Performer Eligibility: If a performer has been nominated or has won in a Lead or Supporting Performer category, the performer will not be eligible to submit in a Guest Performer category in a subsequent Emmy year for playing the same character role in the same series. They may, however, continue to enter in a Lead or Supporting category.
A prime example of the above rule is when Claire Foy won an Emmy for her lead role in The Crown. She left the show after two seasons, but would reprise her role during flashback scenes in later seasons, which would earn her Guest Drama Actress nominations in 2021 and 2024.
The full 2025 Rules & Procedures book will be made available on the week of 20 January, 2025.
Who are the early front runners for the 2025 Emmys Awards?

Peacock’s drama The Day of the Jackal and HBO’s Batman spin-off The Penguin received major nominations at the 2025 Golden Globes and both are hotly tipped for repeat success at the Emmys.
Colin Farrell took home the Golden Globe award for Best TV Actor for his role as criminal kingpin Oswald “Oz” Cobb, aka The Penguin.
Others to watch out for at the 2025 Emmys will be Hacks, Baby Reindeer and Shōgun, all three being winners in their respective categories at the Golden Globes.

More news on official dates will follow, but in the meantime why not relive the moment The Bear picked up the Emmy award for best Comedy Series at the 75th Emmy Awards.
