- M3GAN 2.0 landing Summer 2025
- Allison Williams and Violet McGraw reprise their roles
- Spin-off SOULM8TE set to follow in 2026

The creepy AI doll M3GAN is returning to our screens this year in M3GAN 2.0, the sequel to Blumhouse Productions 2022’s box office smash hit.
Gerard Johnstone’s campy, horror flick about an artificial intelligence doll designed to be a child’s greatest companion, was made on a modest production budget of $12 million. It shattered expectations by grossing approximately $181 million worldwide.
M3GAN was a success not only financially but also critically and culturally, becoming a viral hit on TikTok with copycat dance trends and earning a favorable 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Initial images from the sequel were released by Entertainment Weekly, so we’re going to take a look at everything we know about M3GAN 2.0 so far.
When is M3GAN 2.0 released?
The release date has been changed multiple times, but it is now confirmed that M3GAN 2.0 will be released in theaters across the United States on 27 June, 2025.

It is thought the June date was set to coincide with LGBTQ+ Pride Month, as M3GAN was embraced by the LGBTQ+ community, becoming quite the cult icon.
It’s likely the film will hit streaming services such as Peacock and Amazon Prime Video following its run in theaters, as the first film did.

Are the same cast returning for the sequel?

Allison Williams is confirmed to return as Gemma, the roboticist who created the M3GAN doll.
Violet McGraw, who plays Gemma’s niece, Cady, also returns. Williams, who not only stars but produces the films, told Entertainment Weekly, “We couldn’t leave our girl out of it”.
Other returning cast members include Amie Donald, who plays the physical movement of M3GAN, as well as Jenn Davis who provides M3GAN’s sweet, but sinister voice.
What’s the plot of M3GAN 2.0?
Plot details for M3GAN 2.0 are still under lock and key, but Universal Pictures has released a teaser trailer showing the M3GAN doll performing trademark dance moves to Chappell Roan’s Femininomenon. “Miss me?”, she asks viewers, followed by a creepy laugh and wink to camera.
Other images released appear to show a different M3GAN doll, but it’s also likely M3GAN just had a glow up for the sequel and is donning new outfits.
Director Johnstone has hinted on developing ideas that he originally pitched as the first film’s ending. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said, “I had actually a different idea for the ending of M3GAN, which would’ve been interesting but probably not as satisfying. The good thing about doing a sequel is I got the chance to expand on that idea into a longer narrative. The idea James (producer James Wan) had fit really well with that. So, it was just a really good marriage of those two things.”
The first full trailer was released ion 3 April, 2025. It introduces a new killer doll named Amelia and shows M3GAN flying. You can watch it below:

In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate”.
The initial story is from Wan and will be directed by Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother). “Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness”, said Dolan in a statement announcing the new project.
