The Last of Us TV show was an amazing success when released in 2023, proving that game-based adaptations can also be best.

The Biggest Risk: Joel’s Fate

Fans were eager to watch this, and fortunately, it not only won the hearts of existing players but the new ones found it quite captivating. The series captured the heart and emotions of the original game so well, making it one of the most talked-about shows of the year.

But the road to success won’t be the same for season 2; major challenges are lying ahead as the series will have to deal with the extremely controversial moments that occurred in the game: Joel’s death.

Those who played The Last of Us Part 2 felt disappointed and entirely frustrated as the events turned in a way that ruined the game’s essence and experience for players, and they thought they got cheated by the developers.

Joel, one of the most beloved characters in the franchise, dies very early in the game. His sudden death left everyone in shock; they couldn’t process it, and fans were heartbroken.

A Chance to Fix Past Mistakes

Now, as the show follows the same story, chances are this may again spark debate and criticism. It’s high time for show makers to learn from past mistakes and ensure that watching series may not feel like getting betrayed.

The show might choose to extend Joel’s presence by adding flashbacks or extra scenes. This way, his departure may not feel forced. Another turn-off player mentioned was the introduction of Abby, who was responsible for Joel’s death and became the center of hatred instantly.

What was more disliked by players, they were made to play with Abby most of the time. Now, the series director has to find a mid-way for Abby’s character and maintain balance regarding her involvement in the narrative, so players may not end up hating her.

They should give Ellie, one of the main characters, more scenes rather than focusing more on Abby. The biggest challenge is making sure that the show remains true to its emotional core while not repeating the mistakes that occurred in the game.

The Season 2 cast has also been explained, and fans are looking forward to the release, hoping that it will offer a different watching experience than the game itself.

The first season worked because it told a powerful story portraying both the main characters and players. If Season 2 can do the same while handling the crucial aspects with care, it might avoid the controversy.
