- Josh Gad has spoken about the progress of Frozen 3
- Frozen 2 came out in 2019
- Frozen and Frozen 2 are two of the most successful animated movies of all time

The cold might not be a bother, but what about a long wait? Fans of Anna and Elsa have been told they will have to wait until 2027 for Frozen 3 to come out.
Frozen 2 came out in 2019, and was a huge success, as was its predecessor in 2013, but it could be another two years before the next film arrives in theaters.
Josh Gad, who voices optimistic snowman Olaf in the movies, has given fans an update on the progress of the long-awaited third film in the beloved franchise – and explained that there is a good reason for the long wait.
Reason for Frozen 3 delay
Speaking on The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw podcast – as reported by People – Gad said that the creative team want to ensure the story is right and does justice to the franchise.
“There’s a reason the movie is coming out in 2027,” he said. “And that is because no one wants to rush this. Everyone wants this to not just be a sequel or a money grab. They want this to be absolutely worthy of the story we set out to make in 2013 [when the first Frozen movie was released].
“And we want to give audiences something that is worth the years of waiting and years of anticipation. And I know that they are actively working on that. And I know that they have a story that they are very, very, very excited about.”
That will be heartening news for Frozen fans, even if they will have to be patient.
Critical and commercial success
Both Frozen movies have been critical and commercial successes – although Frozen 2 didn’t quite match the first film’s critical response.
That said, Frozen 2 is still the third most successful animated movie in history in terms of box office receipts. It was only knocked out of second spot last year by Inside Out 2.
Both Frozen movies are still favourites on streaming services and are constantly picking up new fans who discover them for the first time.
As the movie is still being written, there are obviously few details about what the plot might be. However, it is expected that core characters Ana, Elsa, Christophe and Olaf will return.
It was also previously announced that there are plans for a Frozen 4, so it makes sense to ensure the third film is as good as possible to ensure enthusiasm for the franchise continues.
Frozen 3 is currently slated to arrive in theatres in November 2027.
Gad has been in the news elsewhere recently for a movie he didn’t get cast for – Avatar. Apparently, when digitised, he resembled an overweight Smurf.
