Although Euphoria’s past two seasons were a huge hit, question marks hung over its future for some time.
Season two aired in January 2022 to great success. It became HBO’s second most-viewed show of all time after Game Of Thrones and per Variety, was the most tweeted-about show of the decade in the US.
However, season three’s been slow to get off the ground even though it was renewed in February 2022. At one point, fans questioned if it would even happen at all.

In a new development, season three has finally entered production. But what else do we know about the next instalment of Euphoria?
When will Euphoria season three be released?
Euphoria’s third season has suffered numerous delays. The Hollywood strikes in 2023 contributed to this, as did showrunner Sam Levinson’s commitments on the ill-fated show The Idol.
“We can’t start shooting,” the show’s Francesca Orsi told Deadline in May 2023. “So the delivery of that show — ideally in 2025 — will be determined on when we can pick back up with Sam, who at this point is [not writing] and just finishing on The Idol.”

In addition, many of its stars, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, are far more successful now than when the show first began. As such, they’ve been tied up with other commitments.
Meanwhile, cast member Angus Cloud – who played Fez in the show – passed away in July 2023. A coroner confirmed he died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and other drugs.
That proposed 2025 release date is now looking like early 2026, given production only began recently. Warner Bros. Discovery global streaming chief JB Perrette confirmed this at a conference in December 2024, per Variety.
What is Euphoria season three about?
Season three will take the cast beyond high school and will involve a time jump.
Zendaya confirmed this in October and joked: “There’s only so much high school drama you can deal with. And then she cheats on her boyfriend again!”
Levinson first teased the idea of season three being a “film noir” and teased that Zendaya’s character Rue, a recovering addict, would “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
Who is in the cast of Euphoria season three?
In July 2024, Deadline reported that actors Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Eric Dane, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Colman Domingo and Dominic Fike will all return for season 3.
There are a couple of other actors who have confirmed they are not returning. Storm Reid, who played Rue’s sister Gia, isn’t coming back and neither is Barbie Ferriera, who played Kat.
Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast, she said: “I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice…I think both parties knew that.”
