Marvel Rivals made a bold decision announced a mid-season rank reset and this didn’t well perceive by the players and they responded with the massive outrage. They took out their frustration on social media and expressed that this change is not acceptable.

This game has been super popular these days since its launch and has become a fan-favorite as it keeps adding new content and characters; it will also be adding the remaining two Fantastic Four characters: The Thing & Human Torch for which players have been eagerly waiting.

But all the excitement went in vain as soon as NetEase dropped this new plan, which was aimed to “shake up the battlefield,” but fans didn’t buy it. Many saw it as a player being compelled to grind more. The biggest concerns included:

  • Lost Progress: Players felt that all the progress they have made during the season will get wasted, became demotivated to play all over again.
  • Unfair Matchmaking: Due to this the highly competitive players would be dropped into lower ranks, creating unbalanced games.
  • No More Hero Bans: Only Diamond and higher players can ban certain overpowered characters like Storm, Hulk, Wolverine, and Luna Snow. Now if rank reset would have happened these bans would not be there, resulting to a mess on battlefield.
  • With the rank reset, these bans would disappear for many, leading to chaotic matches.
  • Punishing Casual Players: Those who do not play game regularly, it would be harder to climb back up every season.

Rank Reset Reversed! Fans’ Outrage Changes the Game

Players called it totally pointless and protested against it, and it seems like their complaints have been heard. NetEase has taken back the decision to rank reset within 12 hours. In a blog post, they officially announced that the mid-season rank reset would no longer happen. They explained:

  • The first half of the season will still conclude on February 21, 2025, at 8:00 AM (UTC+0). Players at Gold rank will receive the costume reward, as well as Crests of Honors for those in Grandmaster and above, and the Crest of Honor for the top 500 (One Above All).
  • When the second half of the season begins, there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their ranks and scores from the end of the first half. To earn new rewards, players simply need to complete 10 matches in Competitive mode and meet the relevant conditions by the end of the season.
  • Rewards will include a new Gold rank costume and a variety of Crests of Honor featuring distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All.

The post concluded by mentioning, “We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission!” Now players don’t have to worry about their rank getting pushed.

Instead developer have kept the original cosmetic rewards (like costumes and crests) and has also made it easy to earn them, it requires players to play 10 competitive matches.

Taking an instant action has proved that Marvel Rivals care for the community and its feedback and doesn’t aim to impose something which players do not find entertaining.
