- Capcom reveals Onimusha: Way of the Sword gameplay at State of Play

The PlayStation State of Play event has revealed a number of upcoming iconic tiles including, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, offered fans a first glimpse of the gameplay.
A Samurai’s Journey Begins
This one the highly anticipated games is set to release in 2026, it was first announced at The Game Awards last year. However, nothing in detail was revealed about it.
Now, Capcom didn’t stand behind in the race of revealing trailers and gameplay during the PlayStation’s event; unveiled their trailer, which shows the main protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, a character who appears to be a Japanese sword man.
The clip displays his combat scenes where Musashi encounters Zombie-like samurai, and the protagonist is quite skilled in that he doesn’t only rely on his sword while dealing the enemies but also uses his surroundings for better encounters.
Moreover, his interactive ability with the environment gained a lot of attention, making it a distinct gameplay mechanism. He can be seen throwing a table in the enemy’s direction or using it as a shield, and later on, he wraps a cloth around the head of the enemy.
Bloodstained Blades & Dark Fantasies Await
Akihito Kadowaki, Development Producer of the Onimusha Series at Capcom, stated about Miyamoto in a PS blog post, “An ardent samurai who arrives in Kyoto looking to prove that he is unmatched in the way of the sword.
However, the path before him takes a strange and unexpected turn.” Further mentioned the character’s face model: ” The protagonist of this game is a fierce young samurai, constantly moving from one bloody and mucky fight to the next.
In order to cement this image of a striking samurai, Capcom has turned to none other than the late, iconic Japanese samurai movie star Toshiro Mifune to serve as the face model for this rendition of Miyamoto Musashi.”
Capcom has kept Onimusha’s signature fighting style, he combat remains grounded and skill-based. The offical release date hasn’t been shared yet but players are told to expect the arrival in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
