Microsoft has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) key to its keyboard, which will be included on new Windows 11 PCs from February.

The new key will give users access to Copilot, Microsoft’s AI tool, which helps users to search for information, write emails or meeting notes or create images, among many other functions. Copilot is powered by OpenAI, for which Microsoft is a major investor.

The introduction of the AI key has been called “transformative” by Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft executive vice president, akin to when the Windows key was added almost three decades ago. Writing in a blog, he said the addition of the key would help to simplify things for users.

Microsoft is set to highlight what Copilot can do at the CES tech event in Las Vegas next week.
