Loot boxes have made their way back to Overwatch 2, first introduced in Overwatch 1 but with the launch of OW2 these boxes got removed completely.
Loot Boxes Are Back – But with a Twist
But this time things are different, players won’t have to pay for these boxes rather Blizzard has decided to keep them as free rewards, making players excited. Game director Aaron Keller shared the reason behind this decision in an interview with PCGamesn.
He said, “Season 15 is bringing loot boxes back to Overwatch, and we’re actually really excited for their return, “When we looked at the game – and we’ve heard this feedback from players,
but really this is an internal development criticism of Overwatch 2 – we didn’t didn’t feel like Overwatch 2 was rewarding players enough, especially free players, for the time they’ve put into the game.”
He explained that the development teams intend to make sure players that the time and efforts they invest in game get noticed, mentioned that, “As people play and engage with the game, we want them to feel like the game is recognizing that and they’re actually getting something out of it.”
Blizzard’s Push for a More Rewarding Experience
Furthermore, Aaron stated, that in Overwatch 2 players are been given free currency in the free battle pass but the team is continuing to push towards doing better and the return of loot boxes allow the them to be “pretty generous”, he said, “our intention is to be very generous with the way we give loot boxes out to our players.”
To attain the loot boxes, players will have to do some grinding by doing in-game objectives, including playing through free and premium battle passes, completing the challenges, using the weekly tracker system, and other different ways.
The free-to-obtain loot boxes will have tons of cosmetics items. Aron explained that these boxes will contain the items from the in-game store; he said, “Most of the shop cosmetics we’ve come out with will go into the loot box system, and most of the ones going forward will, too.
They’ll be a season behind from what’s going into the shop, but they’re all going to be added to the loot boxes.” With this stunning surprise Blizzard is doing its best to make the Overwatch 2 more engaging and worth playing, Moreover, it has got a competitior in the market.
Considering it the developer is taking steps, adding new content, listening to players’ feedback, and bringing enhancements to make the title standout.
