Emanuel “Manny” Alvarez is a member of Washington Liberation Front and a close friend of Abby Anderson. He supports her through her personal struggles and sticks by her side, often going into battle together.

To his allies, he is a kind and loyal soldier, but when it comes to fighting enemies he is merciless and cruel. He trained under both the Fireflies and WLF and is known to be a skilful marksman and a capable hand-to-hand combatant. He has killed several infected and Seraphites while serving for the WLF. Isaac (played by Jeffrey Wright), leader of the WLF, regards Manny as their best soldier.

Manny has an ill father, so while he’s going to war with the infected, he’s also making an effort to ensure his father receives the best medical care available.

Ramirez’s character is polarizing. On top of being a brutal, infected-killing soldier and a caring son, he is also a bit of a womanizer. With his charisma and jovial attitude, despite the harsh world around him, Manny is known for his flirtatious nature and casual romances among the WLF.

Manny and Tommy

Fans of the video game will know that Manny has a strained relationship with Joel’s brother, Tommy (played by Gabriel Luna). And they’ll know what’s potentially coming in season 2. For those watching the series without prior knowledge, just know that a violent and very significant encounter is on the cards.

While Manny and Tommy don’t have a long-standing personal rivalry, their fates are determined by  vengeance and survival that defines The Last of Us Part II.

Co-writer of The Last of Us series, Craig Mazin recently told Entertainment Weekly that “Each episode is like a meal. You can have a light dinner or you can go to a 12-course French restaurant. “We have seven episodes. They are high-calorie, dense episodes. If you consider action and drama and scope to be the things that create an epic nature, each one of these episodes packs quite a wallop. You will not be bored.”.
