In the era of AI, Xbox has revealed a new AI model, named Muse, to bring back and enhance the classic titles to play on modern devices.
Muse AI: A Bridge Between Past and Future Gaming
This model has come into existence through the collaborative work of the Xbox research team and Ninja Theory, the game development studio, to assist developers in reviving nostalgic games in modern times.
Microsoft initiated this process by discussing it with 27 different game development companies and then published the study in the science journal Nature.
In a recent blog post, Fatima Kardar, Corporate Vice President, Gaming AI mentioned about the use of AI in Xbox and how it is helps in improving the gaming experience for both: players and developers.
She stated, “We believe generative AI can boost this creativity and open up new possibilities.” However, while the initiative sounds exciting, players are more concerned rather than thrilled about it as they think that AI may take away the uniqueness and originality of their favorite titles.
However, to cool down the criticism and backlash, it has been explained that Muse isn’t like traditional AI; being a generative AI, its focus lies on optimizing and preserving the old games.
Kardar explained, “What’s groundbreaking about Muse is its detailed understanding of the 3D game world, including game physics and how the game reacts to players’ controller actions.
This allows the model to create consistent and diverse gameplay rendered by AI, demonstrating a major step toward generative AI models that can empower game creators.”
This AI is trained in the Bleeding Edge game, and it possesses an in-depth understanding of how 3D mechanics work in the game, allowing it to improve the classic titles to make them playable smoothly on modern-day devices with advanced technology.
Balancing AI Innovation with Classic Game Authenticity
As many remarkable and old titles were designed for old hardware and now these cannot be played on contemporary consoles, Muse is here to help and make this impossible thing happen; in short, its goal is bringing classic games to life again so that today’s generation can enjoy them as well.
Fatima further stated, “We believe this could radically change how we preserve and experience classic games in the future and make them accessible to more players.”
For those who are not aware, Xbox has been using AI for a long time, and Muse is more advanced, which is not a replacement for developers. Rather, it aims to assist and enhance their creativity and to save their time.
The players will also be given a chance to try out these AI gaming experiences. As Fatima stated, “As we look ahead, we’re focused on how AI can address the barriers and frictions to playing and developing games.
This means that we’ll share our AI product innovation earlier on, providing opportunities for players and creators to experiment with and co-build new AI features and capabilities with us.
This allows us to make sure that our AI innovations address real problems and add new value to creating or playing with Xbox.” Despite the fact that Microsoft is thrilled about this new approach towards gaming, players are still concerned if Muse will be able to improve the classics without altering their true esscence.
Some fear that the AI may change the core features, many questions are being raised, and fans are now looking forward to the Xbox team and developers for how successfully they are going to use AI while crafting and improving games.
