Overwatch 2 has introduced another new currency in game, called as Hard Light Crystals. Players are pretty confused about it as right now no item is linked with this currency and Blizzard has not announced anything relevant yet. So, what are these glowing blue gems? Let’s figure out.

Season 15 Brings Big Changes

Game’s Season 15 includes the major update which has brought the Loot boxes back but these time players won’t have to pay anything for them and other exciting changes. Overwatch 2, as previously announced, is also removing the Clash Mode after considering player’s complaints.

The overall improvements and additions have positively impacted the gaming experience, but no one was ready for this unexpected surprise of including Hard Light Crystals.

Players found them in Hero Gallery, listed in the Edit Filters Menu. But only puzzling element is Blizzard is silent about the currency and it isn’t linked to any item currently.

Theories About Hard Light Crystals

So now fans are coming up with their guesses, theories, and explanations. Some has to say that these crystals are part of a special system for Chinese players. Recently, OW2 made its way back to China and as per reports these crystals could be for Chinese players to purchase Loot Boxes.

Another theory suggests that Hard Light Crystals are a form of compensation when players get duplicate items in a loot box. Moreover, some fans think that these crystals might be related to Hard Light weapon skins introduced back in Season 8.

Another Addition to Overwatch 2’s Many Currencies

Players are a bit concerned as Overwatch 2 already has a number of in-game currencies for different purposes, and now the new one is adding to the confusion. These include

  • Overwatch Coins – Used for shop purchases and cosmetics
  • Credits – Used for legacy cosmetics
  • Mythic Prisms – Unlock Mythic hero and weapon skins
  • Competitive Points – Attained through Competitive Play, used for weapon variants
  • Legacy Competitive Points – Converted at the end of the year, used for old weapon variants
  • League Tokens – used for Overwatch League cosmetics; currently it are not in use
  • Event Tickets – Used for limited-time event cosmetics

However, fans need to sit down and chill as there is no need to be overly curious about this currency, if it was a big deal Blizzard would have made an announcement or who knows if it may happen in future.

For now, players have to step back from coming up with theories and wait for the official update.
