- Baena died in January
- Coroner’s notes revealed the couple had separated
- Plaza had been concerned about him before he died

Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena separated four months before he passed away, a coroner’s report has revealed
The pair separated in September 2024. A month later, Baena made “concerning remarks” to Plaza that “prompted her to call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband,” according to a report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner. The documents also refer to them “experiencing recent marital difficulties”.

After the welfare check, Baena had been going to therapy. He died by suicide on 3 January this year.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy”

The actress had received a text message from Baena on the morning of his death. According to the report, his body was found by a dogwalker.
Plaza and his family responded to this devastating news shortly afterwards via a short statement. It read: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
She was meant to appear at the Golden Globes that weekend to present an award but decided not to attend.
Plaza’s SNL 50 tribute
Understandably, Plaza’s not been in the public eye much since Baena died. However, she did appear on the SNL 50 show last month, offering a quiet tribute to him.
She appeared on screen to introduce a musical performance by Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard.
Fans were quick to notice what appeared to be a small tribute to her late husband.

Plaza appeared in a simple black jacket. However, underneath fans noticed she was wearing a tie-dye tee shirt – something which Baena was reportedly a fan of.
In fact, his love for tie-dye even infiltrated the pair’s wedding. “We got married on a whim. Literally decided at around 5pm and got married at 8:30,” Plaza revealed during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2021.
“Jeff got really into tie-dyeing during the quarantine. So, I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us. I made a love altar in the backyard of all of our love objects. It was very witchcore, but it happened.”
