The White Lotus is anything but a sanitised television series. We’ve seen partner-swapping, age gap romances, full-frontal nudity and one character using another’s suitcase like a toilet.
However, a storyline in the show’s current third season has potentially surpassed all of that in terms of shock value. Brothers Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan’s (Sam Nivola) relationship carried an undertone of incest from the beginning, but as the show has progressed, it has become more obvious. Incest rarely is covered on TV, but creator Mike White has chosen to dive into one of the biggest taboos still remaining.

In the first episode, it’s clear Saxon’s a creepy sort. He behaves strangely with both his siblings and is overly tactile with sister Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook). Things take a darker turn when he goes into the bathroom in his shared room with Lochlan and
A few episodes later, things escalate when Saxon and Lochlan kiss while high and drunk. As they recover from their hangovers in episode six, more memories flood back and Saxon realises that it went further. Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), who were with them at the time, corroborate these events.
“Who greenlit that plot?”
While some fans were intrigued by what was going on, others were left feeling queasy.

Another fan wrote: “the white lotus lost me this season with the incest plot line”.
A third viewer was in agreement, writing: “the incest storyline is just so unnecessary and distracting I’m barely enjoying the season anymore”.

What else could happen in the rest of the season?
As ever, we know at least one person will wind up dead by the end of the show. The opening sequence, where gun shots interrupt a meditation session, tells us that much.

It remains to be seen how the girls’ trip will fall apart, whether Rick will get the revenge he craves or whether Belinda will get justice for Tanya as Greg swans about the resort.
