Jennifer Coolidge – who has just won an Emmy – is the latest star name to be announced as part of the cast for the upcoming Minecraft movie.

Coolidge, who picked up an Emmy earlier in the week for her work on HBO’s The White Lotus, joins other stars including Aquaman star Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. But no details have been released on which character she will be portraying in the film.

While few details are being given away about the movie – including any plot details, or who is writing the script – there is nevertheless a good cast list building up for the film. This is eagerly anticipated by gamers and moviegoers alike who want to see how the block-based game will be translated into a live action format. Filming is currently ongoing in New Zealand, with Jared Hess on directing duties. A release date for the film has also yet to be announced.

Coolidge won best supporting actress for a limited series at the Emmys for her role as Tanya on White Lotus earlier this week. She has an impressive acting CV going back many years, including film roles in Legally Blonde and Promising Young Woman, although for many people she is still best known for playing ‘Stifler’s Mom’ in the American Pie series of films.

She will be seen next on screen in Riff Raff, alongside Ed Harris, Pete Davidson and Bill Murray.

Minecraft is the bestselling video game of all time, with 300 million copies sold since it launched way back in 2009. Its enduring appeal means there are still about 140 million active players every month. Spin-offs from the main game have included Minecraft Story Mode games, where players take a character through a defined movie-like plot.
