Welch and her team were accused of manipulating the price of the coin by hyping it up and then quickly selling off their shares for profit (a “pump-and-dump” scheme). Cryptocurrency journalist Coffeezilla also claimed they engaged in insider trading, meaning they used private information to make unfair profits. However, Welch’s team has denied all allegations.
A lawsuit was filed against the creators of the coin because of the scandal. The lawsuit was for selling a form of cryptocurrency that they thought was not registered properly.
