After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that the role of Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle is being recast, but who is Caleb Ellworth-Clark, the actor taking on the role?
As production on the revival of beloved comedy Malcolm in the Middle gathers pace, there has been speculation about whether those who played the brothers of Malcolm in the show would return to reprise their roles – especially as only one of the three were still active in the industry.
Variety has confirmed that two will be returning – Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, who played Francis and Reece respectively – but Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, would not be. You can find out what has happened to Erik Per Sullivan here.
Instead, the role has been recast with Caleb Ellworth-Clark taking on the role.
Who is Caleb Ellworth-Clark
Ellworth-Clark is not a particularly well-known name in the industry – yet – but has appeared in some hugely popular shows in recent years.
The actor, who hails from Calgary in Canada, is possibly best known for playing Tucker Gardner in four episodes of action/fantasy series Wynonna Earp in 2017.
Apart from that, Ellworth-Clark has had minor roles in various shows – often appearing as a background character in one episode. This includes The Handmaid’s Tale in 2020, Fargo in 2023 and The Thicket (2024).
Ellworth-Clark also has an upcoming role as Officer French in upcoming Paramount+ crime drama Unspeakable: The Murder of Jonbenet Ramsey. This series is based on the real-life case of child beauty queen Jonbenet Ramsey, who was murdered in 1996, but the case has never been solved. The series will star Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Jonbenet’s parents, Patsy and John. The drama is currently in production in Calgary, and doesn’t yet have a release date.
In addition to his screen work, Ellworth-Clark has appeared on the stage in recent years, starring in various theater productions in Calgary and Edmonton.
Malcolm in the Middle role
Ellworth-Clark will take on a significant role in the Malcolm in the Middle reunion series. Dewey was a fan favorite character in the original series – the younger brother who was often mischievous and had a nice line in one-liners.
How Dewey will have grown up will be of great interest to viewers – and especially how his relationship with his elder brothers has evolved in the nearly 20 years since the original show finished its run.
