Cori Broadus – Snoop Dogg’s daughter who performs under the name CHOC – has revealed that she has suffered a “severe stroke”.

Broadus broke the news to her 657,000 followers on Instagram on Thursday, with a picture showing her lying in a hospital bed. The accompanying comment said: “I had a severe stroke this AM. I started breaking down crying when they told me. I’m only 24. What did I do in my past to deserve all of this?”

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is disrupted by a clot or a bleed. It usually occurs in older people but can also affect younger people. The effects of a stroke can vary significantly; they can bring about life-changing injuries. However, some people do make a full recovery from them in time.

Broadus is the youngest child of rapper Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus Jr, and his wife Shante. The couple also have sons, 29-year-old Corde and 26-year-old Cordell. She has performed on some of her father’s tracks in recent years. She also released the single ‘4am’ last year. In addition, she is also chief executive of makeup brand Choc Factory Co.

Strokes can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. Symptoms of a stroke often include a person’s face dropping on one side, which means they may not be able to smile. Another common symptom is a weakness in one side – a person may not be able to lift both arms and hold them there. Thirdly, a person’s speech may become slurred, or be able to talk at all, depending on the severity.

Strokes can be treated with medication to address the cause. Some people recovery quickly from strokes, while others will require long-term support, depending on the severity of the initial stroke.
