DC fans rejoice: The Batman – Part II is set for release on October 3, 2025, but there is speculation over almost everything else about the movie.
It has been confirmed that the film will be part of DC Elseworlds – so in its own universe, rather than the main DC one.
Robert Pattinson has been confirmed to reprise his role as The Dark Knight, and Andy Serkis is also back on board as his faithful servant, Alfred Pennyworth. But who will comprise the rest of the cast is yet to be confirmed. It is thought people such as Jeffrey Wright, who played Commissioner Gordon, will return but this has not yet been announced.
Perhaps, more significantly, what the plot is and who the main villain will be in the film is also unknown. There has been speculation online about which of the large roster of villains Batman will have to take on, but the only official words have been denials. Hush was a theory posited, as well as Professor Pyg, but DC Studios head James Gunn has been quick to shut those rumours down.
Deadline suggested Clayface could be the villain – although whether it would be the shapeshifting clay monster version, or the disgruntled actor version is unclear, as is whether it may be true.
The first film left Joker and The Riddler in prison, but either or both could make a comeback – as we all know, Gotham’s prisons and asylums aren’t known for being escape-proof. The Penguin – played by Colin Farrell in the first film – could also return.
Details will out as the time towards the film’s release gets closer and filming is underway. While the release date has been set it, wouldn’t be a surprise that date slips. Filming was supposed to start in November 2023, but was held up by the writers’ and actors’ strike in Hollywood. But now that has been resolved filming can begin, although not until March.
Meanwhile, there is plenty of fun to be had speculating online about who might be set to take on Batman this time.
