One of Stranger Things biggest stars is releasing a new album this week – but who is Djo?

For those unaware, Djo is the musical alter-ego of Joe Keery AKA rude-jock turned nice guy Steve Harrington.

Together with the show’s other young heroes, Harrington has been responsible for saving Hawkins, Indiana from a range of threats emerging from the eerie Upside Down.

In fact, he’ll soon be forced to do it once more.

Together with Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven, Finn Wolfhard’s Mike, Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin, Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas, Noah Schnapp’s Will, Sadie Sink’s Max, Natalia Dyer’s Nancy and other high schoolers-turned heroes, Stranger Things season 5 will round out The Duffer Brothers’ hugely popular Netflix hit.

However, before that happens, Keery will be releasing a new album under his musical moniker Djo. Entitled The Crux, fans can wrap their ears around Keery’s latest batch of synth-pop boppers from Friday 4 April.

Keery has been recording and releasing music for a number of years now. After some time spent tampering with different styles in his early 20s, Keery adopted the stage name Djo in 2019, self-releasing a track called Roddy.

According to reports, Keery’s use of the name Djo was intended to avoid any unwanted accusations that he might be using his Netflix fame to give his musical aspirations an unfair advantage.

The actor-turned-musician was so dedicated to this idea that he reportedly even performed some shows in disguise to throw audiences off the scent.

Featuring poppy hooks and dreamy, synth-ladened melodies, Djo’s music has been compared to artists like Ariel Pink and Tame Impala.

Where have you heard his music before?

Djo has released two albums so far. These include 2019’s Twenty Twenty and 2022’s Decide. His third, The Crux, is released this week.

Despite releasing a number of tracks, there is one in particular that might be most familiar to the majority of people – especially if they’re on TikTok.

Last year, End of The Beginning, a track taken from his second record Decide, was released as a single after it gained viral popularity on the video sharing platform.
