Five Nights at Freddy’s is based on the horror video game series of the same name by Scott Cawthorn. Predictably, the first movie was a smash hit at the box office, making $300 million worldwide. The sequel was confirmed in January 2024, and a release date was announced in May. Production began in October 2024 and finished in February 2025, so we can look forward to what sneak peeks Universal will offer.

What was in the Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer?

The trailer was released on 2 April. You can watch it below.

From the trailer, it looks like the animatronic terrors are back in action. At the beginning of the trailer, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzaeria appears to be open with a voice saying, “Welcome back, are you ready to start the show?”

Now, this could be a welcome back to viewers or a hint that the pizzeria reopened, but that does not seem likely. If anything, it seems more likely that the “welcome back” references the rebranding of the pizzeria more than anything, since it was engulfed in flames in the first film.

Abby is fixing her friends?

A little later, Mike is seen finding a note taped to a door that says, “Gone to fix my friends”.

The indication of the note suggests that Mike’s sister Abby (Piper Rubio) is the one fixing the animals. After all, Abby refers to the animals as “her friends,” and because they are also children trapped in the bodies of the animatronic animals, they do take a shine to her in the first movie. It seems likely the animals tried to persuade Abby to fix them.

If we apply that to the first movie, the animatronics could be being taken apart, because why would Abby have to ‘fix’ her friends if their parts and the children weren’t broken?

Five Nights at Freddy’s – the whole town

Following on from that scene, Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) says to Mike, “They’re out there, Mike”. In response, Mike asks, “Where?” and she says, “Everywhere”.

Throughout the trailer, there are appearances of the animatronics, Chika and Mangle most prominently, as well as Bonnie, of course.

After this, there is a montage of the animals coming alive and attacking various people in the town. However, the animals are not limited to the pizzeria, and in one scene, it looks as if Vanessa, Mike, and Abby are in one of their houses. They are being attacked away from the pizzeria, and it seems like the plot will center on the animatronics attacking the town rather than just Mike and company.

Is William Afton returning?

Matthew Lillard is reprising his role as the serial killer William Afton. In the trailer, it appears he may return in the Spring Bonnie costume. Afton was the mastermind behind the killings in the first movie, and his fate is left ambiguous. Even though it is a grim one, he technically doesn’t die.

An interesting subplot would be to see if Afton wants revenge on his daughter Vanessa after she helps to take him down.

When is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 released?

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is releasing on 5 December. Stay tuned for updates on the film here!
