- In a way, it does what it says on the tin…

A wacky moment from the Minecraft movie has sparked a viral trend.
The moment occurred when Jack Black’s character, Steve, and Jason Momoa’s character, Garrett Garrison, attempt to distract the bad guys. To do this, they face off against a Minecraft chicken in a boxing ring.

It appears they just have to battle a cube-shaped chicken, but then an equally square baby zombie appears and climbs on the chicken’s back. Essentially, he’s riding the chicken like a horse, prompting Black to yell “CHICKEN JOCKEY!” Chicken jockeys are a part of the original Minecraft game.
Why is it causing chaos in cinemas?
Now the film is out and footage has spread on social media, cinemagoers catching the film are eagerly anticipating the moment the chicken jockey arrives.
It’s snice gone viral – an edit of the clip that sped up with every loop has been viewed more than 3.5million times.
One fan claimed on X: “Jack Black saying ‘Chicken Jockey’ almost had the theatre I was in cheering louder than Captain America saying ‘Avengers assemble’ in Endgame.”

As a result, the reaction in theaters when it happens has been chaotic to say the least. Judging by footage on social medias, audiences have been clapping and cheering the moment and even throwing entire buckets of popcorn.
“As a movie theater employee, if you throw popcorn, you deserve to not only get kicked out but to clean that s**t up. Working through A Minecraft Movie has been HELL because of the people coming in,” reads one comment on TikTok. “I love Minecraft and will be seeing it but a majority of the crowd has been really immature young adult/teenagers. And it’s ACTUALLY embarrassing the way they are acting.”
Some reported the police being called to eject troublesome people in the audience.
How has the film been doing?

A Minecraft Movie has already set a box office record – for presales for a movie based on a video game.
A Minecfaft Movie has taken $10.55 million in previews, beating the previous record of $10.3 million, according to Deadline. The previous record was set in 2023 by Blumhouse’s horror film Five Nights at Freddy’s.
When it comes to reviews, critics have said that the film is suitable for the whole family but others have suggested it panders a bit too much for gamers.

Some other critics weren’t as kind. “It mostly chooses laziness over imagination, directly insulting everything Minecraft stands for,” said a review from Flickering Myth.
MovieWeb added: “A Minecraft Movie arrives is exceedingly silly with puerile humor meant for young children and die-hard gamer enthusiasts. The goofy characters, inane narrative, and dull musical numbers will be a chore to sit through for most adults
