Andy King, the lawyer made infamous by Netflix’s Fyre documentary, about the doomed and very, very fraudulent Fyre Festival, has warned that Billy McFarland’s second attempts at making the festival a reality are also doomed to fail.

Despite McFarland’s public bluster surrounding the upcoming festival, which officials on the supposed host island claim is absolutely not happening, is at odds with everything else that anyone connected, or potentially connected, is saying about it.

Fyre Festival 2 Continues to Look Unlikely

With no official lineup released for a festival that is due to take place in less than two months, more than a few people are smelling another scam. McFarland was famously sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud in a Manhattan Court in 2018. He would be released in March 2022 after serving just less than four years of his sentence, having been dubbed ‘the poster boy of millennial scamming’ by Vanity Fair.

King, who shot to internet immortality after revealing the lengths to which he would have gone to procure clean drinking water for the festival, has now commented publicly on McFarland’s grand plans: part deux, for the first time.

As it turns out, King had been in contact with McFarland again in recent months, only to then be ghosted by the convicted con artist (they’re so untrustworthy, aren’t they?), who he does not believe has been changed by prison.

“He is Setting Himself up for Another Failure”

Taking to Instagram, King wrote in a lengthy social media post, “For all the fans and press who have been reaching out to me the past few weeks, I wanted to just share this… a year and a half ago, I spent some time with Billy trying to get him to focus on empathy and paying people back from the original FYRE. I hoped and prayed that he had changed during his time in prison but I’m not sure that is the case.

“As we began discussing a financial package to make sure I got paid this time, he ghosted me and went off on his own.
I have said this repeatedly but I am the only one who stuck by Billy and who lost hundreds of thousands of dollars with the original FYRE festival. Not to mention a massive hit to my career after being labeled “toxic” from being involved with Billy.

“What most of the world doesn’t know, is that I agreed to do the @netflix FYRE documentary for FREE so that the true story could be told and we could create awareness to be able to set up the Go Fund Me to pay back as many people in the Bahamas as possible.

“In the end I am saddened by Billy’s actions and his current turmoil. As it looks, he is setting himself up for another failure.”

Billy McFarland Fires Back

McFaland has also been busy on social media. The convicted fraudster took to Instagram, sharing photos of documentation related to the festival’s planning and a timeline of events up until this point.

The post includes screenshots of artist invitation emails. There were also permits for tourism and special events. In the caption McFarland wrote that the various documents will prove that he has been “working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event.”

McFarland added “All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation. FYRE has operated as a good partner with PDC government and has followed the proper processes and procedures to lawfully host an event.”
