For those on the receiving end of this chaos, it doesn’t sound like fun, with The Hollywood Reporter claiming that cinemas employees can’t wait for A Minecraft Movie to leave the big screen.

Clips of viral chaos linked to A Minecraft Movie have recently been doing the rounds on social media. However, these are seemingly only encouraging more youngsters to attend screenings and do more of the same.

One of the most viral recent clips features a live chicken which was brought to a screening by a ticket-holder and removed at a key moment of the movie.

Videos of this poor bird have since been shared across social media.

For those unaware, these scenes of multiplex madness stem largely from one specific moment in A Minecraft Movie.

Directed by Jarred Hess, the film stars Jack Black as Steve, a mining-obsessed guy who gets sucked into a colorful video-game world. He’s soon joined by a host of newcomers and together they must fight off a sinister enemy that threatens their entire, cuboid world.

At one point in the movie, Steve comments on a baby zombie landing on the back of a chicken by yelling ‘Chicken jockey!’

Gamers will no-doubt already be aware that this is a rare occurrence within the Minecraft game and the moment has since become hotly anticipated. When it pops up, fans have been going crazy – jumping from their seats, throwing food and drink and revealing their own chickens, apparently.

How have cinemas reacted?

Well, theatres haven’t reacted well to this growing ‘Chicken Jokey’ meme.

According to reports, exhibitor trade organisation Cinema United as issued a list of guidelines to help employees deal with this issue. These include dishing out “pre-show announcements” and instructions to call the authorities if things escalate.

Meanwhile, Cineworld posted their own guidance on Instagram, telling fans “Don’t go full Creeper. No throwing, no mess, and no filming the screen! (That’s piracy, folks.)”

Theatre employees are hating it too. Speaking on the MovieTheatreEmployees subreddit, many have expressed their exhaustion with the whole thing.

“We had to kick a kid out last night for throwing a drink at someone. It’s really sad how many kids have no respect for others, all for a meme,” said one Redditor.

Another added: “It was a fun movie, but I gotta tell ya, atrocious behavior from half the crowds. A bunch of kids threw all their food to the ceiling at this scene. Some other kids got pelted with food.

“A first-weekend run of a children’s movie is not the place to act awful”
