Gasps rang out as Vance scrambled to collect the trophy’s base from the floor and TreVeyon Henderson stepped in to help him awkwardly piece it back together. Several players were seen struggling to hide their laughter in the background.

“Perfect metaphor for Trump’s economy”

Vance’s fumble instantly sparked a frenzy online on X, with many suggesting the moment was symbolic of Trump’s second term in office so far.

@BlueATLGeorgia was quick out of the blocks with “Perfect metaphor for Trump’s economy” and many agreed with the idea.

@DerekCressman chimed in with “Kinda like breaking the government so nobody else can use it?”

“Great metaphor for JD’s presence in our government” added @CzechSanity.

@RobinSMessing agreed on the metaphor front, writing “JD Vance’s breaking of the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy is a metaphor for what the Trump Administration is doing to the United States”.

@ChidiNwatu continued the jibes with “Everything Trump/Vance touches has fallen apart, so no surprise here”.

“Sources say this is the way he’s handling our economy” quipped @Ronxyz00

Other users took the chance to whip up some new memes directed at Vance’s poor handling skills.

What did JD Vance say about it?

Vance himself jumped on the bandwagon of jokes, trying to lighten the moment. He wrote on X “I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it”.

Shortly before the incident, Vance, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State in 2009 noticed someone in the crowd wearing a hat representing the school’s arch-rival, Michigan.

He called the fan out and even threatened to send the Secret Service their way.

“I don’t know who let the guy over in the corner here in a Michigan hat into the celebration, but I’m about to tell the Secret Service you’ve got a dangerous weapon, sir,” he joked.
