This time around, Elle Fanning takes the lead in a future-set story that follows a young Predator forced to team up with a human (but is she?) in order to defeat a mutual foe. That’s the elevator pitch although fans were more interested in some of the tiny details featured within the trailer.
Notably, these involved an array of alien skulls that were glimpsed briefly during the trailer’s opening moments.

Fans wasted no time sharing their views online, with many heading straight to Reddit and social media to suggest that Predator: Badlands could share some DNA with another popular movie alien.
Predator: Badlands skulls: Theories are shared online

The main theory surrounding the Predator: Badlands skulls focuses on the one at the centre of the trailer’s opening scene.
Moments after hitting play, viewers are welcomed onto what appears to be the ship of a juvenile predator. On the wall are numerous alien skulls, one of which looks very familiar.
Over on Reddit, fans have suggested that this could be the same alien species as the one featured in Independence Day.
In that 1996 film – and its 2016 sequel Independence Day: Resurgence – aliens with wide heads similar to the skull featured in the Badlands trailer faced off against American troops.
Fellow fans were quick to chime in.
“Disney bought fox. Fox made ID4. I’d say the resemblance is not an accident,” suggested on user.
“Imagine we get a shared ID4 universe,” pondered another. Meanwhile, some suggested the middle alien skull looked more like one of Steven Spielberg’s aliens.
“To me the middle one looks like the Tripod aliens from Spielberg’s War of the Worlds.”
Very true.
Has this happened before?

If this alien skull really is from a species that has featured in another movie franchise, it wouldn’t be the first time such an occurrence has happened in the Predator franchise.
Fans of the series will no doubt remember a similar moment during the final moments of 1990’s Predator 2. This film saw Danny Glover’s cop Lieutenant Mike Harrigan find himself on a similar alien ship where he saw another batch of alien trophy skulls adorning its walls.
Among them was the domed cranium of a Xenomorph from Sigourney Weaver’s Alien movies – a franchise that was also owned by the same parent company Fox.
