Taylor Swift made history at last night’s Grammy Awards by becoming the first artist to win the album of the year title four times.

On a night where female artists took centre stage, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus and SZA were also big winners.
But Swift took the top honour for her album ‘Midnights’ and, in doing so, went past musical legends Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon to claim the best album title for a fourth time. She had previously won in 2010 for Fearless, in 2016 for 1989, and in 2021 for Folklore.
Cyrus took the record of the year award for ‘Flowers’ – which also picked up a gong for best pop vocal performance – while Eilish claimed song of the year for ‘What was I made for?’, which appeared on the Barbie movie soundtrack.
Swift was presented with her award by Celine Dion, who receive a huge ovation from the audience, having been rarely seen in public since she revealed that she had been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder last year.
But Swift later sent fans wild during her acceptance speech for winning the best pop vocal album award as she unexpectedly revealed that she is releasing a new album on April 19 called ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
Elsewhere, Killer Mike took three rap trophies, but his night ended on a sour note when he was involved in an alleged altercation backstage, which led to the LA police being called and the rapper being hit with a misdemeanour battery.
The Grammy Awards show also featured performances by two female legends who rarely play live today. Tracy Chapman, who semi-retired in 2009, joined Luke Combs on stage, who had a hit last year with a cover of her ‘Fast Car’ song.
Meanwhile 80-year-old Joni Mitchell sang for the first time at a Grammy Awards ceremony. Performing while seated, she sang Both Sides Now, after picking up the best folk album award for a live album capturing her 2022 comeback to performing after suffering a brain aneurysm.
