You likely know Brett Goldstein from his starring role as the gruff, lovably sweary footballer Roy Kent in Ted Lasso. However, he’s going back to his stand-up roots in his new comedy special.
Ted Lasso fans will know Goldstein’s already had a large influence on the show’s comedy factor as he was, first and foremost, in the writers’ room. He identified so strongly with Roy, however, that he ended up in front of the camera too. Before his breakthrough moment, he had been writing and performing for years.

Now, Goldstein’s back on stage with new comedy special The Second Best Night Of Your Life. But where can you watch it?
Where can I watch The Second Best Night Of Your Life?
Fans in the US could tune into HBO last night to watch the special air. However, if you missed it or you don’t have HBO, you can now watch it on HBO Max.
In the UK, the special will air on Sky tonight (27 April) and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
What is the show about?
HBO’s synopsis reads: “Goldstein sheds his testy Roy Kent façade to share his hilarious insights on love, sex, masculinity, Sesame Street, and everything in between. Filmed at the Bergen Performing Arts Center, Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life offers up the musings of a comedy veteran in the most beautiful place on earth… New Jersey.”
Goldstein toured the show for 14 months around the US. “I always wanted to tour and I was very lucky that I was doing Ted Lasso so regularly and that was taking up pretty much all of my year,” he told the LA Times. “So when that finished I started doing other things and I had more time. But then I had Shrinking [the show he co-created] and everything else. So I was mostly touring during weekends. Thursday, Friday, Saturday I tour and then come back to the writers room.”
What’s happening with new Ted Lasso?
It seemed like Ted Lasso was done after the third season, which aired in 2023. However, in a surprise twist, news emerged recently that a fourth season was in the works.

Even though Ted returned to the US at the end of season three, Jason Sudeikis will return as the chirpy football coach. It isn’t known yet if Goldstein will reprise his role as Roy, but he will be returning to the writers’ room.
There are rumours that the new season could revolve around a women’s team which Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley (Juno Temple) proposed creating.
