The call out asked followers a simple question: “Are you scared of phone calls?”
The poll gave users two possible answer choices. The first was “Yes, I’d rather text” and the second was “No, I prefer phone calls.”
Easy enough, right?
People wasted no time chiming in with their answers. By the time all was said and done, the questions had revealed that 65% of people would much rather send their friends a simple text than actually hear their voice.

In fact, more than 24.8K people agreed with this sentiment over the 13.3K who said they actually quite like speaking to people over the phone.
Why do people hate speaking over the phone?
Perhaps these results aren’t too surprising. In fact, an article on Forbes pointed out that most millennials actually hate phone calls – and this has likely spread to other generations.
According to their report, a phone call “seem invasive because it demands an instant response.”
In comparison, different media like emails, DMs and texts at least give users the benefit of a bit of reply time.
According to CBS News, some are developing what has been labelled “fears of the phone” or “phone phobia”
“It’s so easy to just like text someone quickly, and it’s much more private than having a conversation out loud,” explained one 18 year old they spoke too.
Reddit users agree that phone calls aren’t the one

Fellow phone phobes sounded off on Reddit, explaining the reasons behind their telephone trepidations.
“A lot of it could be any combination of social anxiety, not liking the idea of being available 24/7, poor reception, and hating all the spam calls that people get,” said one user. “At least with a text message, you don’t have to worry about the person on the other end being able to hear you.”
Meanwhile, a second added “I hate phonecalls because I have a very hard time understanding people through the cell network. Plus dropping signals/calls is annoying.
“It is easy to misinterpret tone through text but most young people make up for that through emojis, tone indicators, and other slang.”
