Spider-Man star Tom Holland is to star in a new production of Romeo and Juliet at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London this summer.

Holland will take on the role of Romeo in the production of the iconic Shakespeare play about doomed lovers, which will be directed by Jamie Lloyd.

Holland posted a short teaser to announce his casting on his Instagram feed, containing the words ‘violent delights have violent ends’ and featuring an image of Holland largely in red and black.

“Tom Holland is one of the greatest, most exciting young actors in the world,” said Lloyd. “It is an honour to welcome him back to the West End.”

Other casting details have yet to be confirmed.

By taking on this role, Holland is going back to his roots – he first made his name in the theatre when he played the title role in Billy Elliott The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre. He then of course found global fame when he was cast as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and starred in numerous films playing the iconic web slinger, including three under the Spider-Man name.

Romeo and Juliet will run from May 11 to August 3, 2024. Tickets go on general sale on February 13 at 12pm.
