Apple might owe you money. For real. The tech giant has agreed to pay $95 million in a class action lawsuit for owners of Siri-enabled devices purchased during a ten-year period.

In 2014, when Apple introduced the “Hey Siri” command to activate the hands-free virtual assistant, it turns out Siri was allegedly recording private conversations without people knowing.

The lawsuit started in 2021 when a California user, Fumiko Lopez, and others claimed Siri was eavesdropping. They say Apple then passed that info to third-party brands like restaurants and clothing companies, which used it to target them with ads.

The eight-figure settlement was reached in January 2025, with Apple users limited to seek compensation on a maximum of five devices.

Despite the payout, the company still “denies all of the allegations made in the lawsuit and denies that Apple did anything improper or unlawful” as per the settlement website.

Who is eligible to make a claim?

According to the settlement, not everybody who owns an Apple device qualifies to make a compensation claim. There’s some set requirements to meet:

You must have owned or purchased a Siri-enabled iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, or Apple TV between 17 September 2014 and 31 December 2024.

It only applies to residents in the United States and those whose private conversations were “obtained by Apple and/or were shared with third parties as a result of an unintended Siri activation.”

How do you know if that’s you? You should have received an email or letter in the post saying you have been identified as a settlement member and given a Claim ID.

If you haven’t, but still believe you have a strong case, you can contact the settlement administrator before 2 July 2025.

How much money can I get from Apple?

Apple is capping payments to successful claimants at $20 per Siri device, meaning the most an individual could pocket is $100.

If you have been contacted by the settlement, you should file a claim using the form on the settlement website.

The final approval hearing is set for 9 a.m. on 1 August 2025. If someone appeals, the cash might take a bit longer to hit. If not, payouts should roll by the end of the year.
