Ye – the artist formerly known as Kanye West – has dropped the video for his new collaboration with Ty Dollar Sign, and it features his daughter, North West, front and centre.
The video for ‘Talking/Once Again’ from the much-hyped forthcoming ‘Vultures’ album was released on Ye’s account on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday and heavily features 10-year-old North West – including on the mic.
North gets a verse to herself on the track – which those who have been following her career may remember she performed at Art Basel in Miami – and includes the lyrics ‘its your bestie, Miss, Miss Westie. Don’t try to test me, its going to get messy.”
The video really is a family affair, as Ty Dollar Sign’s daughter Jailynn Crystal is introduced in it, and he sings about how he seeks to protect her from the crazy world around her.
This appears to be the latest step in North West’s nascent career in the music business. She’s already shown hints of her creative instincts on TikTok, where she posted her ideas for her own music video recently.
The ‘Talking/Once Again’ video is directed by The D’Innocenzo Brothers and includes an insight into North West’s hair styling routine – at one point in it, she is seen getting her hair braided.
This track is supposed to be the first instalment from the long-delayed three-volume ‘Vultures’ project and is expected to be released on Friday. Ye and Ty are staging an event today (Thursday) at the United Center in Chicago, which was described in a press release as an “album released party and listening experience”, which, knowing Ye, will be anything but understated.
So it seems North West is intent on following in her dad’s footsteps – but whatever she does, it is bound to be on social media in the coming years.
