Sebastian Stan has a big few months coming up as he stars in a couple of high profile films – including The Batman: Part II – but how much do you know about the actor?

Sebastian Stan

It’s a busy time for Sebastian Stan. Not only is he starring in the upcoming movie Fjord, as well as playing an iconic villain in The Batman: Part II, he is also set to become a father, with he and his partner recently revealed to be expecting, according to Deadline.

First up, Sebastian has been confirmed in the role of Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II. Stan had long been rumoured to be taking the role in the much-anticipated sequel, but writer and director Matt Reeves has now confirmed the news.

Before that, Sebastian will be in Fjord, an upcoming drama where he plays a Romanian who moves with his Norwegian wife to her remote hometown.

Sebastian is also set to become a father later this year for the first time, after it was revealed his partner is expecting.

So he has lots to look forward to, but how much do you know about Sebastian Stan? Here are some facts you might not know.

Sebastian is Romanian by birth

Sebastian was born in Romania. His mother, a pianist, named him after the composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

However, Sebastian left Romania at the age of his eight, when his mother – his parents divorced when he was two – moved to Vienna in Austria to take up a job as a pianist. Sebastian and his mother moved again when he was 12 – this time to Rockland County, New York – as his mother had married an American man.

Sebastian became a US citizen in 2002.

He started acting in school

It was after his move to the US that Sebastian really started taking an interest in acting. In high school, he starred in many productions, including West Side Story and Little Shop of Horrors.

Sebastian also attended the famous Stagedoor Manor summer camp, where again he starred in many productions.

He spent a year at an iconic British theatre

Having had success in these productions, Sebastian decided he wanted to try and make it as an actor, and took up an acting course at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.

As part of the course, Sebastian took the chance to spend a year studying abroad, and he went to the legendary Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, England – a reconstruction of the playhouse for which William Shakespeare wrote his plays.

His breakthrough was in Gossip Girl

Sebastian started to pick up acting work while at university, with his first coming in 2003 when he appeared in Law & Order.

More small roles followed before he got his first real break when he played Carter Braizen in 11 episodes from seasons one to three from 2007 to 2010. Carter was a rival to several male characters, as well as being involved romantically with several of the female ones.

He could have been Captain America

One of Sebastian’s best-known roles is as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, a role he has played in numerous movies in the MCU, often alongside Captain America.

But Sebastian could have been taking control of the famous shield, had things worked out differently. In the early days of the MCU, when Marvel was looking for an actor to play Cap in Captain America: The First Avenger, Sebastian was considered, but it eventually went to Chris Evans. But Stan made Bucky his own.

He had to have a new arm for his role as Bucky Barnes

Speaking of Sebastian’s role of Bucky, he did cause the wardrobe department on one MCU movie a headache. To play Bucky/The Winter Solider in Captain America: Civil War, he put on more than 20lbs of muscle. However, this mean that the metal arm his character has, which was moulded to Sebastian’s arm, didn’t fit anymore, so a new one had to be made.
