With the success of the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse films, there has been speculation about whether Sony or Marvel would make a live action movie featuring Miles Morales. Now it seems the answer is yes – but not yet.
Franchise producer and former Sony studio head Amy Pascal, speaking to Variety at an Oscars luncheon, appeared to confirm that there are plans for a live action movie, but not for some time.
Pascal said that we might see a live-action film, but “not until we make two more movies. Someday.”
It is thought the two movies Pascal is referring to is the third instalment of the Spider-Verse series, Beyond the Spider-Verse, and a fourth Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland.
Pascal has also previously indicated she was open to the idea of the MCU and the Spider-Verse crossing over at some point (although the MCU is referenced subtly in Across the Spider-Verse).
This news will excite all Spidey fans. The Tom Holland version of Spider-Man finished its trilogy in 2022 and there has been speculation ever since about whether a fourth would be made. A fourth film is said to be in the works, but no details have been forthcoming, nor a potential release date – although there are theories it would be before the end of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, perhaps early 2026.
Holland himself has been on a break from acting but recently announced he will be appearing as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet on the stage in London this summer.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was initially slated to be released on March 29, but that date has been pulled due to the Hollywood strike and a new one has yet to be confirmed.
