The first images from the upcoming remake of The Crow have been released, showing star Bill Skarsgård as a tattooed reinterpretation of the iconic role of Eric Draven.

The shots seem in keeping with the original film’s noir and gothic look, with Skarsgård looking moody, as well as tattooed and ripped. His fiancée, Shelly, played by musician FKA Twigs, is also included in the first shots.
Rupert Sanders is on directing duties, and he has previously spoken of its tone being similar to a song by The Cure.
The film is, like the original, based on James O’Barr’s graphic novel of the same name. The script has been penned by Zach Baylin and William Schneider.
The film is a reboot of the original franchise, which began in 1994 with The Crow, with Brandon Lee in the role of Draven. This film, while critically well received, as well as being a box office hit, became infamous for the death on-set of Lee – son of the iconic Bruce Lee – after an accident involving a blank gun round.
It hasn’t been confirmed how closely this new version sticks to either the book or the first film. In the original tale, Eric and his fiancée Shelly are murdered by a gang after their car breaks down. Eric is then resurrected by a mystical crow, and he then goes to seek vengeance on those who murdered him.
The original film reworked Eric as a rock star who was murdered, along with his fiancée on Devil’s Night in Detroit. But again, he comes back life to avenge his death.
It will be no doubt hoped that this new, updated version of The Crow fares better than the original sequels to film – The Crow: City of Angels (1996) The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005) which were not critical or commercial successes.
The Crow hits cinemas on June 7.
