Superhero sequel The Batman Part II has had its release put back to 2026, meaning it will be even longer for fans to wait to see the next instalment of Matt Reeves’ version of the Dark Knight.

The Batman Part II had been expected to arrive in 2025, but a reshuffle at Warner Bros has meant the release has been shifted back a year to October 2026. Filming is set to start imminently.

This means the second part will be seen four and a half years after the first part, which saw Robert Pattinson don the famous black cowl for the first time.

Little has been confirmed about the sequel in terms of actors’ roster and plotlines, although Andy Serkis is returning as Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred. However, it is expected that alongside Pattinson and Serkis, Zoe Kravitz and Jeffrey Wright will return in their respective roles as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Commissioner Gordon.

The new release date also means that it is after the slated beginning of James Gunn’s new DCU, which begins in 2025 with a new Superman film. Perhaps confusingly, there will also be a new Batman too – Andy Muschietti is directing The Brave and the Bold. But Reeves’ Batman and Muschietti’s version will be different and exist in different universes. Reeves Batman is part of DC Elseworlds, along with the Joker films.

But, for fans pining for new Bat-content, there is the upcoming Max series The Penguin, which ties in with Reeves’ Batman. In it, Colin Farrell reprises his role as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, and it follows his drive to consolidate his power base in Gotham after the events of The Batman. That will hit screens later this year.

There is also the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie a Deux, which again features Joaquin Phoenix as the titular baddie, alongside Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.
